“Happy is a man who is living by his Hobby” – George Bernard Shaw.
In today's stress-filled life, having a hobby or two
is really important. By definition, A hobby is a regular activity that is done
for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. It can be anything that you
love from reading to bird watching to people watching...All that matters is
that it makes you happy. Or it provides a purpose which makes you happy.
Having a hobby keeps your brain active and running,
which leaves you no time to be unhappy and think about unimportant things.
Hobbies are one of many ways to be more productive in life, especially when you
have trouble finding yourself. But finding a hobby doesn't have to be that
complicated, as well as finding yourself. It's important to be willing to take
action and wanting to do it.
If you're looking for HOBBIES that will empower,
stimulate & inspire you while clearing your head, releasing stress &
overall contributing to your wellbeing & growth, Here is a list of 10
hobbies that I found interesting.
LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE
Study after study has demonstrated the cognitive
benefits of learning another language, no matter how old you are. Memory
improvement, longer attention span, and a reduced risk of age-related cognitive
decline are just a few of the known positive effects of speaking two or more
languages.
There are so many resources to learn languages
nowadays and I personally recommend the app Duolingo. It's fun, easy to use and
they have more than 20 languages for you to choose from.
READING
There's something about reading that you just cannot
describe. It makes you forget about the troubles in your life and helps you
enter into a world that is very different from yours.
Studies have revealed that reading is great for your
brain health, and makes you an imaginative person. It makes you empathetic
because you gain a better understanding of people and the world.
VOLUNTEERING
It is a great way to develop your skills, get work
experience and references for your CV as well as give something back to
society. Focusing on someone else, helps you to overcome selfishness, pride and
gain humility.
PLAYING CHESS
Playing chess may not be for everyone (It certainly
isn't mine). But it is proven to literally make you smarter by exercising both
sides of your brain. Studies have shown it to raise levels of IQ in students,
stimulate creativity, improve memory, strengthen concentration, prevents
Alzheimer's and grow dendrites.
EXERCISING
Scientists all over the world almost unanimously agree
that exercising is good for your brain. It reduces stress and also improves
blood circulation to the brain. Go for a run or hit the gym. What I recommend
is exercising early in the morning before work or school. You will start
thinking more clearly and have more energy throughout the day.
PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
Playing an instrument is definitely your go-for hobby
to get smarter. It helps to relax and acts like meditation. When you listen to
music, multiple areas of your brain become engaged and active. But when you
actually play an instrument, that activity becomes more like a full-body brain
workout.
WRITING
One of the most productive hobbies to have is to write
in your spare time. Writing is an incredibly powerful and important form of
self-expression and it can help to channel your energies into something which
you feel passionate about and in which you can pour your thoughts, dreams, and
desires.
MEDITATION
Meditation is a habitual process of training your mind
to focus and redirect your thoughts. You can use it to increase awareness of
yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce
stress and develop concentration. People also use the practice to develop other
beneficial habits and feelings, such as a positive mood and outlook,
self-discipline, healthy sleep patterns and even increased pain tolerance.
PLAYING VIDEO GAMES
You may think it's a waste of time. But in our
technological world, video games have a huge impact. Video games improve focus,
determination, teamwork, and cooperation. These are all useful and admirable
traits that will make anyone more driven and productive at work.
COOKING
Cooking is one of the most productive hobbies out
there, and something everyone should consider trying their hand at. It forces
you to be in the moment, focusing entirely on the product and processes at
hand. It also forces you to plan ahead. As a result, with practice, you'll get
really good at preparing and making food in advance for the days ahead, meaning
you're being even more productive than you realized.
Finally, Don't be afraid to change the hobby. Who
knows, maybe it lasts 2 days or 2 years, but don't ever be afraid of moving on.
It's all about achieving goals. And if you achieved all the goals you wanted
within that hobby, move on and set more goals and find something else. That's
not only okay to do, but even recommended because why not?
